How You Can Help Our Cats
REMI is a place where love turns into action. We are a volunteer-run nonprofit organization, and our daily work is made possible by the warmth and kindness of caring people. Under our roof, both the “Kaķa sirds” shelter and a veterinary clinic are at work - a place where not only homeless cats, but also the beloved pets of low-income families, seniors, and owners facing hardship can receive free help and a strong shoulder to lean on.
While our cats are waiting for their big day, you can make their everyday lives fuller, calmer, and more comfortable. We are often asked, “What do you need most right now?” Your generosity and care are what help our furry residents feel fed, safe, and loved. Every gift you provide is a tremendous support for us, and our residents and team receive it with genuine gratitude. Below, we have put together a list of the items that are needed at the shelter and clinic every day.
The things we need most:

Treats and everyday food
Over the years, we have found the brands that work best for our residents and help keep them healthy and their coats shiny:
Dry food: Pro Plan, Josera, Royal Canin
Wet food: Smilla, Carny, Nuevo, Royal Canin, Miamor, Athena, Brit, Schesir, Carnilove
For the littlest ones: Royal Canin Kitten (dry food and wet food)

Household and hygiene supplies
A clean and tidy environment is the foundation of our cats’ health and well-being. For the daily upkeep of the shelter and clinic, we especially need:
Laundry detergent and chlorine bleach (for clean blankets and disinfection)
Paper towels and sponges for everyday cleaning
Heavy-duty trash bags

Veterinary diets for special care
Many of our cats need special food to support their health. The most helpful options are veterinary lines from Royal Canin, Pro Plan, or Trovet:
Renal — for kidney health
Gastrointestinal or Fibre Response —
for sensitive digestion
Diabetic — for cats with diabetes
Urinary Struvite — for urinary tract health

Cat socialization
If you would like to help our shyest cats learn to trust people again, socialization is an incredibly valuable form of support. Please keep in mind that this process takes patience and time — often it begins simply with sitting quietly near a cat, allowing them to slowly get used to your presence and start feeling safe with you and relax.
